Distinctive Features of Retail Supply Chain Management - Transportation Perspective
Supply chain management is a business concept that is based on the collaboration of members of the supply chain to reduce costs and increase service to customers, primarily in the area of improving the flow. In supply chain collaboration, usually one member has the greatest power in the supply chain. The power of each member of the supply chain can be changed over time, but in the last fifteen years retailers have the highest power in most supply chains. Due to these developments the increasing numbers of authors are talking about the retail supply chain management (RSCM). The paper presents the basic assumptions of a retail supply chain management, and special attention is given to improvements in transportation in the context of supply chain management, which are initiated by the retailers. The importance of exploiting the advantages of a retail supply chain management is particularly evident in the case of less developed countries, where firms at different levels of the supply chain seek ways of sustainable integration into global supply chains. By selecting the appropriate products and services and focusing on optimizing the overall supply chain, companies can ensure a favorable competitive position. The aim of the paper is to show distinctive features of retail supply chain management, with special emphasis on supply chains of food products and transportation within these. The expected contribution of this work is reflected in a better understanding of the relationships in food supply chains, as well as spotting opportunities for further development of sustainable supply chains based on retail supply chain management
