Influence of Ray Tracing Parameter Variation on Simulated Room Impulse Responses
In order to compare the accuracy of simulated room impulse responses with the measured ones, the parameters of the used ray tracing algorithm within a programme for room acoustics calculation were varied. An existing rectangular room of 230 m3 wasmodelled. The order of soundwave reflectionswithin the “Ray Tracing Find Impacts” calculation mode was varied as well as the observed time range of arrival of the impact rays. The simulation was performed with different sound sources (omnidirectional and directional) and with changing acoustical treatment of the room. Simulated impulse responses were obtained and the resulting dana of each simulation was carefully examined in order to validate its relevance. Room acoustic parameters obtained from the simulated impulse responses were compared to gain insight in the impact trend when varying simulation parameters. Previously measured room acoustic parameters were correlated with those obtained by simulations. In general, higher order of sound wave reflections and longer time of arrival yields results that are closer to those obtained in a real room by measurements. Optimum reflection order and time of arrival are proposed based on the computational time and calculation accuracy.
