The interest in children’s agency, children as active subjects and social actors, prevails in some of the most prominent late twentieth century social studies. This conception of children in the new millennium extended onto other fields such as children's literature studies and history of childhood. Following this tendency, this article will try to demonstrate how the conception of children as active subjects in Croatian context was articulated at the level of production, consumption and discussion of fairy tales already in the period between First and Second World War.
