Application of Consumer Programming and Internet- Based Technologies in Underwater Exploration

This paper describes the potential use of consumer programming for development of applications for acquisition, processing and presentation of data in underwater exploration. Consumer programming is an approach to application development that allows the consumer to develop complex data flows and processing applications without any knowledge of programming languages. Widgets are used to acquire, process and visualise data. The consumer can use widgets and widget compositions in order to process data and completely adapt it to his/her needs. GEPPETO tool is used to combine multiple widgets into applications. The consumer can develop complex applications at a high level of abstraction using a web browser. Application of internet based technologies facilitates transparent and seamless utilisation of data and services distributed over a large geographical area, streamlining the cooperation of experts from various institutions.
