Simultaneously with the behaviouristic, the recent cognitive approach to research has been applied because of compatibility and comparability with recent internationally verified methodologies. The presented methodology of ergonomic assessment of the “engine driver – transport means – traffic environment” has been used to evaluate the factors of ergonomic assessment which are also the factors of subjective disturbance from the engine drivers’ cognitive perception. Instead of the emergency factors obtained by depth studies of the participants, damaged transport means and place of accidents as input data into the model, the factors of subjective disturbances of engine drivers have been used with focus on the causes of occurrence. Subjective disturbance of engine drivers as relevant feedback has been used as the measurement for the weight of the driving task. The numerical values of parameters P(%), ō, Iv, PIv(%) and ΣPIv(%) were used to isolate the dominant and important factors and to determine their shares in the groups: “transport means”, “traffic environment” and “human factor”. The dependence of the share of “human factor” on the nature of work, shift-work conditions including night shifts, working conditions, relaxation conditions, and on the possibility of interaction with the family, has been confirmed. It has been proven that the traffic parameters are the travel velocities, types of locomotives or motor compositions, and the purpose of traffic flow, dynamic factors of subjective disturbance from the cognitive perception of engine drivers. The arbitrary and sufficient sample of 50 engine drivers served to prove strong correlation dependence of lumbar moment Ml on the body mass index ITM in the static sitting working position, for the condition of arrangement of frequently used commands within maximal reach of hand, which is an especially expressed factor of physical load in senior engine drivers with reduced lumbar capacity and bigger body mass. Because of the proven influences of groups of factors “transport means” and “traffic environment” with the group of factors “human factor” the dynamic TCI model “driver’s capability – task demand” for the engine drivers in Croatia has been upgraded. Beside the economical operation the proposed traffic solutions will ensure also a human working environment for the engine drivers.
