Some Circuit Theory Based Concepts of Power Electronics

Two basic concepts of power electronics, power conversion device and power control by means of power conversion devices are derived from circuit theory by using the principle of power balance at each frequency and Tellegen's theorem respectively. Power conversion devices are thought of as transformers of power at frequency. It is shown that any power conversion device exhibiting quasy-active property is capable to control the amount of transformed power. Basic power conversion functions as well as conversion properties of basic power conversion device are explained. All properties are derived disregarding the internal structure of particular power conversion networks.
