Curriculum design for development of interdisciplinary environmental and agricultural education

To achieve the full implementation of the Bologna process in the European higher education system, besides the regular study programs undertaken on native languages, international study programs with the tuition in English have to be offered as well. In so doing, it’s particularly important to offer programs focused on specific contents which are interesting both from the regional and global aspects. The results of the international activities and the experience gained so far at the University of Zagreb Faculty of Agriculture (UZFA) led off many opportunities for the collaboration with the foreign institutions in the field of research and education. In line with that, UZFA has launched several study programs on Master and PhD level. The Master's Degree Programme INTER-ENAGRO delivers theoretical and applied knowledge focusing on the sustainable use and management of natural resources, such as soil and water, as well as the positive and negative impacts of agriculture on these resources. The programme is designed as a follow up to BSc undergraduate studies and enables further studying on PhD level. Expected benefits of international interaction in such programs are consideration and comprehension of the regional diversities and multidisciplinary approach which gives a holistic perspective and understanding to these contents. Besides, tuition in English enables an equal participation in programs on the international level, but also leaves field for the faster information transfer, improving and updating of the curricula, collaboration with the foreign partners and building of capacities in teaching and research. INTER-ENAGRO program is being developed to provide students at the Master's Degree level with the knowledge and skills necessary for managing rural environment which includes agriculture and natural resources, within the context of climate change. The paper intends to contribute to the further development of international and interdisciplinary collaboration practice in education and research, and also provides details on educational settings and curricular design of the INTER-ENAGRO master degree program.
