Perforated Peptic Ulcers: Open and Laparoscopic Repair, Our Experience
Most common indication for emergency gastric surgery is perforated peptic ulcer, despite antiulcer therapy and Helicobacter eradication. This type of gastric surgery is still representing with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Debate is still on if laparoscopic approach will reduce these rates. so far no consensus is reached on the perfect setup for operating technique. The rapid development of laparoscopic surgery, offers laparoscopic repair as an attractive option. Since not only it is possible to indentify the site of perforation, but allows us closure of perforation and peritoneal lavage, with all benefits of minimally invasive surgery, laparoscopic correction of peptic ulcer perforation should be considered as a treatment of choice. We have used standardized laparoscopic technique for treatment of perforated peptic ulcers and we have evaluated treatment outcomes.
