Influence of Conditions of Hydrolysis on Cure Kinetics of Hybrid Materials
Influence of hydrolysis conditions on the reaction of 3-glycidyloxypropyltrimethoxysilane (GLYMO) with a crosslinking agent poly(oxypropylene) diamine (Jeffamine D230) was studied by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The investigated systems were analyzed by dynamic and isothermal DSC in order to determine the total heat of reaction and activation energy. Kissinger and Friedman methods were used for determining the activation energy. The experimental results indicate the complexity of crosslinking reactions. Crosslinking of hydrolysed systems is probably catalyzed by the presence of silanol groups from the very beginning. For the nonhydrolysed system the uncatalysed reaction is probably combined with the catalytic influence of some silanol groups formed by a reaction with ambient moisture. Additional reactions may influence the studied systems (possible hydrolysis of epoxy group of GLYMO or formation of ammonium ions). Further research is necessary in order to derive solid conclusions about the influence of hydrolysis on the crosslinking reaction of GLYMO.
