Relationships between work locus of control, Karasek's characteristics of work environment, and job satisfaction
The main aim of this paper was to examine the relationships of internal and external work locus of control with job satisfaction and the three characteristics of working environment according to Karasek’s model: psychological demands, control (decision latitude), and social support. The study was conducted on a sample of 141 employed subjects, of which 65 were men and 76 were women. The results showed positive correlations of internal work locus of control with job satisfaction, psychological demands, control, and social support, while external work locus of control was negatively correlated with job satisfaction, psychological demands, control, and social support. Internal work locus of control and assessments of examined characteristics of working environment were significant predictors in explanation of variance of job satisfaction. Results are discussed in the terms of determination of job satisfaction by the characteristics of the working environment and the personality traits in the work context.
