Sažetak
Large ships' fleet operational and investment projects involve many inter-related activities mostly distributed worldwide. The management of large fleets containing several different vessel types is usually rather complicated and therefore challenging for many ship operators. This paper presents highlights of an on-going research programme that aims to develop a computer based Management Support System (MSS) for large ship operators. A multi-objective approach has been taken in determiming critical MSS requirements and specifications, along with information and communication technologies (ICT) in designing subsystems and their integration into the framework. Some prototype modules are described in the paper. The presented frameworkis intended to simplify and automate information handling, support multidimensional communication, and facilitate decision making process in ship operation companies.
