Sažetak
The accuracy control of assembled steel blocks in most shipyards today is performed by inspecting and repairing in quality. This results in a production halt during the inspection phase. Transforming the shipyard block assembly process to apply the lean built-in quality assembly method is advantageous because it results in interim products assembled right the first time without any adjustments. As a result, added value activities are enhanced while non-value added activities are decreased. This paper demonstrates from a shipyard case study how the lean manufacturing built-in quality transformation of the ship block assembly method improves productivity and quality simultaneously.
