Using Occupational Therapy Theory in Croatia
In this chapter the development and usage of occupational theory in Croatia is represented, with the emphasis on the incorporation and utilization of theory models as means of argumentation of occupational therapy process as well as professional reasoning. It seems that the application of theory as the background for practice is still vaguely understood, considering that the bio-medical model (symptoms oriented) and usage of rehabilitation techniques is more prevalent than the occupational approach. This condition is not merely a reflection of educational deficiencies, but the claims coming from health and social services financiers (the state, ministry, health insurance institute), who focus on resolution of symptoms and not on occupational functioning.
