Music and Cartoons: Opportunities for Using Media in Music Education / Glazba i animirani filmovi: mogućnost korištenja medija u glazbenom odgoju
In addition to carrying many constructive messages, such as pooling forces to achieve victory and/or a higher goal, respect for the enemy regardless of their role and behaviour, characters’ inner struggles with their weaknesses and insecurities and the readiness to embrace the unknown, cartoons offer also many opportunities to familiarize the audience with music. Disney started using classical music in cartoons already in the 1930s. Nowadays there are many new animated characters and anime using music and opening up opportunities to use media in music education. This paper presents a case study of an animated TV series, Little Einsteins, aiming to show that cartoons can be used in music education both at pre-school age and in the first grades of primary school.
