Sphingolipids of Waste Brewer's Yeast
The aim of our research was to determine the concentration of sphingoid bases, C- 18sphinganine, C-18sphingosine and C- 18phytosphingosine in different generations of waste brewer's yeast. The second aspect of the research was to ascertain whether there is difference in the concentration of sphingolipids between different generations of waste brewer's yeast. Total sphingoid bases were extracted from brewer’ s yeast according to the procedure shown on the poster. O- Phthalaldehyde derivatives of the sphingoid bases were prepared and analysed by HPLC. The identity of the sphingoid bases was determined by comparing its elution profile with that of authentic standards. The results point to following conclusion: waste brewer's yeast is a good source of sphingoid bases and the predominant sphingoid base is C-18 sphinganine. The results of this investigation will contribute to economical production of sphingolipids using waste brewer's yeast
