Mined Forest Land in Republic of Croatia
From about 56 600 km2 of Croatian area, approximately 6 000 km2 is under mines, or it is suspected that it is mine area. 44 % of Croatian area is forest land, and 37 % is forested. Close after liberating around one third of Croatian territory in 1995 year, it was evaluated that it is about 10 % of forest land mined (approximately 25 km2). In the same time was estimated that it is about 1 500 km of forest roads are probably mined; it is a less more than 10 % of the lenght of all forest roads in Croatia. After 3 years inventory it is determined that it is mine (blast) as regards doubtful mine 244103 ha (2 440 km2) of forest land or about 1 200 km of forest roads. Three forest administrations are free from mines, three forest administrations are insignificant under mines, until one (FA Gospić) is considerably mined; percentagewise a great mined of Forest Administration Split isn´t so management problem because of its specific quality fire number and priority of remove mines from its forest roads. In connection with forest management, demages of mined forest terrain is different: it is impossible realization of annualy felling, forest inventory is unimplementable, silvicutural and protection forest work is impossible, it is a great damage on wildlife, trees are harmel, site are overgrowing, etc. Remained land mines to be one of the main obstacle for the project of World Bank implementation (Coastal Forest Reconstruction and Protection Project) because on the area of Forest Office Dubrovnik was 325 ha under mines, and in Forestry Office Zadar 150 ha. It is estimated that in 1995 liberating territory is about 70 % hunting-ground under mines and hunting management is impossible. Total loss in hunting economy is approximatelly 162.96..106.DEM. Often state forests those manage public enterprice Croatian Forest, Inc. Zagreb, one´s own finance clearing of forest infrastructure.
