Minimization of energy and exergy consumption by application of combined plant on maritimes isolated communities
A problem of the electric energy and fresh water distribution to maritimes isolated communities is an acute one. The electric distribution network has reached almost every corner of our coast, but this does not solves the problem completely. The fresh water generation by the seawater desalination is rarely applied in Croatia, although it represents a fine solution to the fresh water shortage on the seaside and islands. The small diesel-electric plant could be an economically favourable solution for the hotels and recreation centers. It is been suggested in the paper that the plant waste heat should be used for the fresh water productions. The combined plant, which includes several other auxiliary units and, has a higher efficiency and availibility, has been suggested too.
