IONIC EQUILIBRIA AND PRECIPITATION OF COPPER(II)-HYDROXIDE IN PRESENCE OF GELATIN, SODIUM-CHLORIDE, AND BORATE
The precipitation of Cu(II)-hydroxide was studied in the presence of gelatin, sodium chloride, and borate. The observed phenomena are explained as consequence of ionic equilibria and colloidal inetractions in the system. Regions in which metal ions form colloidal hydroxides, in which gelatin binds metal ions forming soluble complexes or stabilizes the colloidal system, and in which a clear solution is found due to the appearance of soluble metal-borate complexes, are experimentally determined.
