An ICT-Driven Local NGO: Digital Ecosystems Perspective

In this paper we summarize seven years long experience of a small local non-governmental organization in conducting successful not-for-profit media, social, cultural and humanitarian projects intended for the benefit of local community in the City of Križevci, Croatia, Europe. All the projects were citizen-oriented, ICT-driven and grouped into main five project clusters, so-called “Five P.O.I.N.T.s”: (1) Križevci.info Platform, (2) Direct Actions, (3) Education, (4) Culture Shock, (5) e-Publishing. During the given timeline, at least two of the projects coexisted in the community and became partly interconnected. The positive user feedback from one of the projects drove to success of the other, showing the evolution nature of these so-called “digital components” in this online local community digital ecosystem. Online collaboration between other local and regional organizations was also a vital part of daily interaction and knowledge sharing, so the aim was also to provide continuous and free internet hosting services to all the partners and associates in order to enforce these goals. Future project development efforts will include fully functional implementation and deploying of new web-based social media platform for sustainable online local community. This paper presents a chronological case study of building and running an ICT-driven NGO, representing its projects as digital components from the project clusters that coexist in the local community digital ecosystem.
