Financial measures to mitigate the negative consequences of unemployment

Croatian Employment Service reported a record unemployment in Croatia. Along with the claim that unemployment rose in all age groups, it has to be said that the structure of unemployed on the grounds of qualification is also different. Act on Employment Mediation regulates the conditions for the realization of monetary benefits for unemployed and their rights during the time of unemployment in order to mitigate the negative consequences of unemployment. There are connections for the realization of the right to financial compensation for the unemployed and other social security rights including in particular the supplementary health insurance. Specific measures are provided to mitigate the negative consequences of unemployment for certain groups (eg. Homeland War soldiers). Special measures and solutions are also presented by various local and regional government units. There are different measures for different types of education, training and retraining where certain skills and competences are acquired aiming easier adjustment to the labor market. Projects are typically funded by one-time financial incentives. Active employment policy is set according to the guidelines of the European Employment Strategy. Its measures are more targeted to long-term unemployed persons and individual members of certain groups. Programs are implemented either through subsidized employment of targeted group (invalids of Homeland War, people older than 50 years) or by training for known or unknown employer
