Action Research in the Educational Workplace

Contributors in the book are focused on living theories generated by inidividuals as they seek to enhance the quality of their productive lives. A significant feature of the collection of papers in this book is that it provides evidence for the influence of living educational theories in contributing to both improving practice and to generating knowledge. A separation between theory and practice often exists between ‘academic’ and ‘professional’ writings, between what is seen as ‘academic’ and what is seen as ‘vocational’. The generation of living educational theories includes both the academic and the professional in generating knowledge. It includes both the ‘academic’ and the ‘vocational’ as practitioner-researchers are seeking to live their values as fully as they can in their practice. Values are understood as vocational in the sense that they are the reasons why individuals do what they do as they give meaning and purpose to their lives.
