Relationship between autoantibodies combination, metabolic syndrome and its components in autoimmune diabetes in adults
Our data support the suggestion that simultaneous Abs positivity and their titre value represents an important determinant in clinical phenotype of LADA patients. The simultaneous double (GAD and ICA) and triple (GAD, ICA and IA2) Abs positivity seems to reflect T1DM patient’s phenotype. Our results also implicate the importance of IA-2 determination for this purpose as IA-2 positivity in combination with other Abs does not appear to be as rare as previously reported. Additionally, simultaneous GAD, ICA and IA-2 Abs positivity might be used to identify patients with more severe form of 'cell autoimmunity whose residual' cell function might be preserved by early insulinisation. The highest prevalence of MS in the group with single GAD positivity suggest that those patients are phenotypically closer to T2DM.
