MECHANICAL AND BIOMECHANICAL CRITERIA IN FURNITURE DESIGNING FOR 60+ USERS
The objec ve of this study was to present some selected mechanical and biomechanical criteria essen al when designing recrea onal furniture intended for persons at the age of 60+. When carrying out the biomechanical calcula ons, a en on was paid to seek the minimum of the func on value describing muscle eff ort caused by external loads. The obtained data were used to prepare a computer visualisa on of a new recrea onal set. The fi nal stage in the performed design process was to determine the s ff ness and strength of the cushion and framework construc on of a single-person armchair. The most important mechanical and biomechanical criteria for designing recrea onal furniture intended for persons of 60+ years of age are: rigidity of polyurethane foams, allowable pressures on the surface and inside users’ body and func onal furniture measurements.
