Children and health Care Decision Making

Informed consent is fundamental principle in health care through the world. It secure the freedom, autonomy, dignity of each person. According to the Croatian laws the minors do not participate in the informed consent. The children are right owners. Information is the essential part of informed consent. According to the UN Convention of Rights of the Child, the children have “freedom to seek, receive an impart information and ideas of all kinds. (Article 13.) “ We protect child’s' dignity by including him in the process of decision making. Language and communication should be adapted to the each child. The information has to be certain quality and quantity. The minimum information should be provided to the children and ant their parents. The information has to explain the purpose and the effect of particular procedures as well as the consequences of its rejection. We investigate the opinion of Croatian adolescent towards their role in health care decision making. We will present the part of research which was conducted in several cities in Croatia.
