Early Christian Archaeology of Dalmatia: The State of Research and Selected Problems
On the evidence of 188 certain or probable early Christian sites from the territory of the Croatian Adriatic, some conclusions have been drawn concerning the Early Christian archaeology of the area. On balance, the available evidence, although inadequate and inconclusive, points to the presumption that the spread of Christianity in Dalmatia occurred during the 4th and 5th centuries rather than the 6th, and using mostly the existing architectural settings and affecting the material, social and religious life mostly in a non–violent manner.
