Glagolitic Music Tradition in Dalmatia as Part of European Culture
This work attempts to outline the basic contours of specific phenomena of church music in Croatia, the Glagolitic singing as an important part of traditional church singing. The Glagolism was considered as the specific social and political integrity, also determining the large part of secular creativity. The term, Glagolitic singing, derives from glagolitza, a name of Slavic script coincived in the 9th century by Saints Cyril and Method, and taught by them to the Slavs. For want a better term, it has been adopted in musicological studies, as it is the most suitable in differentiating itself from traditional church singing of the Eastern ritual in the Church Slavonic language (later: more about the definition).
