RADIOACTIVITY AT NATURAL GAS FIELD MOLVE
Natural gas is an extremely important source of energy, especially in Republic of Croatia being used one third over other sources of energy. Natural gas is composed primarily of the methane, but it also contains small amounts of radioactive elements. The process of getting natural gas from underground wells to the end users has the potential for being environmentally destructive, and can potentially have harmful impact on environment and population living nearby. This study was carried out at natural gas field at Molve by the Radiation Protection Unit of Institute for Medical Research from Zagreb, as the part of monitoring program "Monitoring of the environment of CPS Molve". The results of gamma spectroscopy measurements of 137Cs activities in mosses and soil for two years period (2009 and 2010) are summarized in this paper.
