Preferences toward sport activities of female students from Faculty of Teacher Education
Assessment of physical activity preferences of target groups is an important step in developing interventions to promote physical activity (Jurakić et al., 2008). The aim of this research was to determine the preferences toward sport activities of female students from Faculty of Teacher Education. The research was conducted on a sample of 84 female students. For evaluating the preferences toward sport activities the questionnaire was applied through the list of 52 sports based on the scale of behavioral aims with grades from one to five, prepared by F. Prot (Prot, Bosnar, 2000). To that list were added 8 more sports, considered as attractive to the younger population. The basic descriptive statistics was made and presented for all 60 sports and the results were ranked as first ten and last ten sports on the base of mean values. The obtained results showed that the female students prefer sports that are mostly recreational character that includes esthetic and rhythm, exercises in nature, sports performed individually or with company and some so-called “elite sportsˮ. On the other side, the lowest interest was shown for some typical “maleˮ sports, unaesthetic and competitive, but also some sports that are not so familiar to this population. The research was conducted in order to emphasize the possibility of individual choice and that the students should get as much of theoretical and practical knowledge about various sports so they can involve the physical activity they prefer the most as the way of life after the end of organized physical activity in their schooling.
