Family quality of life among families of children with disabilities in Croatia: explorative analyses of FQOL Survey results

The Family Quality of Life Survey (Brown et al., 2006) was translated in Croatian language (Zic-Ralić, 2011) and it has been used for the first time in Croatia in one pilot study. The aim of this study was to give first insights into family quality of life of children with intellectual disabilities. The data has been collected in the centres for special education in three towns, Zagreb, Osijek and Varaždin. Parents (N=51) of children with intellectual disabilities of school- age fulfilled the survey. All children with intellectual disabilities attend special school and live with their family. The descriptive analysis of the domains and dimensions show that „Family relationships” is rated highest overall, demonstrating that this domain is prominent in the lives of families that have a member with ID. The domain “Support from others” is rated lowest across almost all dimensions. The overall means of the six dimensions show that Importance was rated the highest while Stability was rated the lowest. The first Croatian results are in accordance with previous researches using FQOL Survey.
