Albian-Upper Cretaceous Lithostratigraphy of The Area East of The Cres City
Three lithostratigraphic units of the Cretaceous age were separated on the area east of the Cres city (Island of Cres, Croatia), chronostratigraphically ranging from the Albian to the Cenomanian, in addition to the two units of Palaeogene age. The oldest Cretaceous formation is Dragarski limestone, continuously followed by Sv. Ivan dolomite and the youngest formation is Merag limestone. The younger Palaeogene formations, Foraminiferal limestone, upper Paleocene to middle Eocene, and the middle Eocene Flysch formation, are transgressively overlying the Cretaceous lithostratigraphic units. For the unit distinction, the parameters of the North American Commission on Stratigraphic Nomenclature were used.
