Cultural Anthropology: Medico-Historical and Bioethical Aspects
Cultural anthropology, a discipline dedicated to the study of cultural-biological interferences and of the "marginal(ized)" social groups and phenomena, might be a precious source of topics worthy of modern medico-historical and bioethical evaluation. Such topics as circumcision, left/right handedness, medical taboos, cannibalism, vampirism, witchcraft, etc., offer excellent material for an interdisciplinary approach. Using the aforementioned topics as examples, the present paper attempts to design for each single topic a sketch for a didactic methodology aiming at the integration of medico- historiographic and bioethical-discursive tools in describing, explaining, criticising, and generalising phenomena errouneously presumed to be related to the past or to a particular geographic area.
