Electrospinning and Protective Textiles/Porous Microstructures via Electrospinning
Electrospinning is a simple and versatile technique for producing fibers in the nanoscale range. Due to its versatility, electrospun products have vast application areas. The microstructure of the electrospun materials is of paramount importance, especially in the field of filtering membrane design, medicine (scaffolds for tissue cell growth, drug delivery systems and wound dressings), protective textile production, nanocomposite materials, catalysts and cosmetics. In the work different polymer solutions were electrospun, such as polyurethane (PU), polyamide 6 (PA 6) and polyethylene oxide (PEO) and their porous microstructures were evaluated with regard of their diameter and pore distribution using the SEM analysis. The influence of the voltage applied on the PA 6 and PU electrospun material was investigated as well. The applied voltage gave an inverse relation to the material fiber diameter. Significant effect of the applied voltage to the fiber diameter was noticed in the case of the PA 6 material, unlike the PU electrospun material which showed less significance.
