Differences in the phytoplankton community composition in three bays on the eastern Adriatic coast, Šibenik bay, Kaštela bay and Mali ston bay
Phytoplankton biomass and taxonomic composition reflect trophic status of certain area. Thru phytoplankton community composition productivity of ecosystem can bee assessed. That is why it is important to determine basic spational and temporal distribution of phytoplankton biomass in relation to physical, chemical conditions and biological parameters of the water column, and to monitor differences in community structure under different environmental pressures. The aim is better understanding of the eutrophication degree through the composition of the phytoplankton community and the individual taxonomic groups specific to a particular area.
