Employee financial participation in Croatian enterprises
Employee financial participation in its different forms is present in most countries in the world. Generally, employee financial participation is more present and more developed in more developed countries. Effects that financial participation brings to employees, enterprise(s) and society as a whole are still under very fierce discussion. Some studies have found different positive effects, but other did not find any. Present level of development of employee financial participation in Croatia could be assessed as relatively low. Employee share ownership which emerged in the course of privatization is decreasing constantly and does not have significant support. ESOP models are rare and also without broader political support. The incidence of profit sharing is negligibly small. Lack of political support to financial participation of employees could probably be attributed to the liberalistic approach of the government during transition and to mistrust to any concept showing similarity to (former) self-management system. Still, there is very little empirical evidence on incidence and effects of employee financial participation in Croatia. This paper will be based on an original research that tried to shed more light on incidence and characteristics of employee financial participation in Croatian enterprises. The research will try to connect employee financial participation with enterprise characteristics and business results.
