Influence of the temperature on corrosion inhibition of carbon steel by blends of carboxylates in chloride solutions
The inhibition of carbon steel by blends of sodium benzoate and calcium gluconate in sodium chloride solutions of different concentration has been studeid in temperature range from 20 up to 70 Celsius degree. Synergistic behaviour of inhibitors mixtures has been shown in high concentrated chloride solutions. The presence of calcium gluconate eliminated the pitting phenomenon which may occur in chloride solution with sodium benzoate alone as an inhibitor. The slowing down the anodic reaction of metal dissolution is due to the adsorption of gluconate along with benzoate, or to the precipitation of a low soluble metal-gluconate complex.Cathodic polarization runs have shown the hindering of cathodic reaction probably due to the precipitation of calcium hydroxide on cathodic areas.
