Heraldic Identity of the Republic of Croatia – Represented through Devices Used by Contemporary Political Parties

The presentation is based on (figurative and literal) analysis of the official coat of arms which has for the last 2 decades represented the contemporary Republic of Croatia. According to that, the total intricate Croatian state coat of arms is primarily analyzed and interpreted through description of its various heraldic elements, taking into account their historical roots and traditional meanings as well as current connotations and explications. After that, a review of various informal heraldic (and an alternative) symbols that are used in representation of the major political parties in contemporary Croatia is discussed as well as compared with the implications on the actual and legitimate state heraldic achievement
