Sažetak
The aim of this study was to evaluate the role of motivation and education in oral hygiene of adolescents by mesuring plaque index. Methods: The study population consisted of 62 schoolchildren at the age of 14-15 years, first graders from I gymnasium in Zagreb. Plaque index was measured befour and after motivational and educational lecture and demonstration of the right toothbrush technic on the model. Non-parametrical statistical metodes were used and independent and perexample Student's t-test. Results: The mean amount of plaque index all examined subjects at the beginig of the study was 3, 52 (m.r.=1, 12) and after the education it decreased on 2, 63 (m.r.=1, 06). At the beging of the study the amount of plaque index was higher for male subjects then for female in all of sextants (ili da stavim segments – tak piše na onom papiru za plak indeks) but in the lower right buccal (p<0, 001). After the education the difference between male and female subjects was only in the upper and lower frontal labial segment (p<0, 001). The right buccal segment of the upper and lower jaw had at the beginig the highest plaque index 4, 27 (m.r.=1, 24) and after the education had the highest impovement 3, 11 (m.r.=1, 33). The left buccal segment of the upper and lower jaw had the highest plaque index 3, 16 (m.r.=1, 20) after the education program. Conclusion: After conducted motivation and education decreas of the amount of plaque index confirms their importance for improvement of oral hygiene in adolescents. High amounts of plaque indeks at the beging instructs lack of prevention programes in Republic of Croatia.
