Peter Pan in Children's Literature
The thesis describes and explains the character of Peter Pan and its literary development. It is revealed how the appearance and the genesis of the character is related to the facts and circumstances of its creator’s live. James Matthew Barrie, also connected his life with his work in the creation of other characters in Peter Pan narratives. The thesis also focuses on the idea found in criticism that Peter Pan narratives can be understood as representing adult desire for the child. However, the fact that in the story of Peter Pan every wish comes true, from early fantasies of flying to the resurrection of the dead, makes its protagonist one of the most popular characters of children’s literature. It is stated that stories about Peter focus on the children’s intuitive reluctance to grow up, the wish for eternal youth, which is the reason why te character of Peter pan is popular among both child and adult readers.
