Analysis of the Impact of the Sewing Needle Selection on the Quality of Women's Lingerie

Throughout history underwear had various forms, and gradually it was understood as a second skin of the body. Modern market demands defined the need for high thermophysiological comfort, which is easily achieved by using various materials. The use of very fine materials results in processing problems in the manufacturing process of women's lingerie. Before the very beginning it is necessary to perform tests of the parameters that affect the quality of manufacturing and of the finished garment. The parameters of the technological process of sewing knitted fabrics are: penetration force of the sewing needles, sewing thread tension, feeding of sewing materials, sewing thread selection, and the size and shape of the sewing needle. The major technical and technological parameters of the technological sewing process includes sewing needle penetration force and size and shape of the sewing needle. Passing the needle through the material occurs at the maximum speed at which the friction occurs between the sewing machine needle, the thread and the workpiece. To achieve high quality of sewn stitches in knitted garment, it is necessary to improve the sewing process to achieve a minimum penetration force. Lower penetration force means fewer damages of knitted fabric stitches in the process of sewing knitted garment. Sewing needle penetration force consists of friction force and displacement force occurring in the sewing process, when the sewn workpiece opposes the penetration of the sewing needle. This paper describes the impact of a proper sewing needle selection on the quality of the production of knitted garments.
