DMOs’ Websites Evolving into Destination Management Systems and Perspectives towards Sustainable Tourism Development

The purpose of this study was to simplify the concept of Destination Management Systems (DMS) by decomposing it into primary elements and relating it to Destination Management Organisations’ (DMOs) websites. Namely, it has been noted a trend towards upgrading DMOs’ websites with functionalities such as online booking systems and CRM systems all according to DMOs adoption of e- commerce. The article provides a theoretical framework regarding the evolution of websites into DMS and a research where regional Croatian and European DMOs are compared. It also deals with ICT-based application of DMS in the function of sustainable tourism development of destinations.
