Contribution to ship slamming and whipping analysis
Problem of determining the impact load for ships in harmonic waves and the transient response is considered. Different methods for impact force and time variation assumptions are analyzed and compared. Transient vibration of ship hull is solved by the finite element method using the mode superposition method for the system condensation and the harmonic acceleration method for the time integration. Application of numerical procedure is illustrated in case of a large container ship. Time obtained results i.e. hull sagging and hogging deflections, bending moment and shear forces are analyzed as well as their uncertainty due to unreliable determination of the impact pulses.
