Single versus Double Venous Microvascular Anastomoses

Single venous microvascular anastomoses is preferred over double venous anastomoses because higher velocity is present and therefore there is a lower risk of thrombosis. In the forearm free flap, which is still the most raised free flap, superficial and deep venous system anastomoses are almost always high up in the antecubital fossa ; for that reason we try to find this single interconecting vein to include it in the vascular pedicle.

microvascular anastomoses; free flaps; forearm free flap
