The Stone Monuments from Siscia
There are only 60 inscriptions found in Siscia, what is rather small number compared with the area within town-walls of Salona, which yielded over 1700 pieces. These preserved monuments offer interesting and reliable data about various aspects of life in an ancient town, even though somewhat partial owing to their small number. The most numerous, one half of all preserved one, are dedicated to various divinities. The preserved inscriptions give us insight into the pantheon of the ancient Siscia and the stratified nature of the devotees on these inscriptions, from goverment officials to Orientals to domestic farmers or slaves, with the dedications to appropriate deities of their classes.
