Wear and Corrosion of Steel in Stable and Dynamic 5% NaCl Enviroment
The investigations of detrimental effects on equipment handling products in petroleum and gas processing industry have provided numerous information about materials, aggressive media environment and parameters of work processes (1). It has been observed that construction material displays faster wear out from the expected and designed operational life time of the equipment, which led to disturbance of operation processes, standstills and even incidental situations (fire, explosion and ecological incidents) (2). The paper gives description of investigation of wear of carbon and alloyed steels under corrosive and erosion inducing circumstances. Steels have been tested as normalized and boronized test samples. Corrosion testing have been carried out in 5%NaCl salt chamber environment (static process). The erosion - corrosion testing have been performed in the device for erosion measurement filled with 5% NaCl saturated solution with addition of quartz sand. These experiments lasted for 72 hours, and control measurements were carried out after 24, 48 and 72 hours. By application of gravimetric methods material surface losses were measured, metalographic testing of metal surface and (Vickers Hardness) HV 0,1 prior and after experiment were also executed. The investigation results indicated that boronized specimens displayed higher resistance to corrosion and erosion-corrosion inducing environment.
