Determination of chloramphenicol by validated liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry method in Croatian honey
Honey is generally considered a natural and healthy product. Chloramphenicol (CAP) is a bacteriostatic antimicrobial bannded for food-producing animals use in EU since 1994. because of heavy side effects in humans and by Croatian low in 2005. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of CAP in honey in Croatian market by validated and confirmative method based on liquid chromatography – tandem mass spectrometry with negative electrospray ionisation. The method was applied for analyses of honey samples collected from whole Croatian area. There were 269 honey samples in total in period from 2005. till 2011. Method quantification limit was 0.3 µg kg-1 and only two positive samples were found. These results proved very good quality of Croatian honey.
