Volcanic Rocks of the Island Vis (Adriatic Sea, Croatia)
The island Vis being situated on the Adriatic Carbonate Platform is dominately composed of the carbonate rocks. However, in its western part near the small town Komiža, occur different volcanic rocks, ranging in chemical composition from basalt, trachyandesite to andesite. The REE patterns, spidergrams and different discrimination diagrams based on the immobile trace elements point to the calc-alkaline nature of the investigated rocks and their possible genesis in the subduction environment.
