Sažetak
Reactive dyes are the largest product group in value terms with quarter of market and it grows as the use of natural fibres increases. Wastewater originated from reactive dye processes represent a specific ecological problem due to its high content of organic halides and color besides. This type of wastewater is characterized by poor biodegradability, therefore some other treatment method should be applied prior to discharge to the sewage system. Investigations, in laboratory scale, of production process of monochlorotriazine reactive dye, similar to C.I. Reactive Blue 5, were carried out. One of the raw material for this type of dye is cyanuric chloride (2,4,6-trichloro-1,3,5,-triazine). Production wastewater contains unreacted cyanuric chloride, chlorinated intermediates and byproducts as well as dye product which can not be completely isolated because of its high solubility. In our previous investigations coagulation/flocculation process was successfully applied as a treatment method for reactive dye wastewater. Organic halide analyzer DX-2000 can be used to determine organic halide content in water, oil and soil. In this work, the possibility of application of AOX method in coagulation/flocculation process efficiency monitoring, detecting and measuring presence of organic chlorine in reactive dye wastewater, was investigated. Experiments were carried out in wastewater from reactive blue synthesis process and model wastewaters of other representative of monochlorotriazine reactive dyes (C.I. Reactive Red 45, C.I. Reactive Green 8, C.I. Reactive Blue 49 and C.I. Reactive Blue 137). The results have shown that AOX values, as well as COD, BOD, TOC and IC50 parameters were significantly reduced. Quality of water obtained after treatment process is suitable for discharge to the sewage system.
