Study of transients due to switching of shunt reactor designet for 400 kV croatian network

The paper deals with transients phenomena originating from high voltage shunt reactor with solidly earthed neutral switching. Transients that occur on the reactor side during normal system operation were considered. The characteristics of two reactors (100 MVAr and 150 MVAr) were compared passed on the results obtained from calculations of transients that occur during switching operations. Overvoltages provoked by current chopping and reignition of electrical arc have been studied.
