Western parts of the Sava-Vardar Zone - Stop 9: The "Orlova klisura" Quarry near Srebrenik
The Upper Cretaceous-Paleogene active margin formations with flysch signatures occur within the western branch of the Sava-Vardar Zone as isolated outcrops mostly covered by Neogene formations of the southern Pannonian Basin. In the northern part of the Dinarides this zone can be traced from Mt. Medvednica in the northwest to the Drina River Valley in the southeast. The succession is composed of different lithofacies comprising transitional terrestrial-marine, shallow-marine-slope and basinal lithofacies with flysch signatures.
