Effect of External Loads at the Output Shaft End of Universal Worm Gear Reductor on its Thermal Capacity
Universal worm gear reducers are mechanisms that operate with a relatively low level of efficiency so that it should take care about their thermal capacity. The value of thermal power limit for gear reducer without installed motor is defined in the catalogue, so that it enables their proper selection, i.e. it enables the certain procedures to undertake in order to overcome possible problems due to excessive heating of gear unit. The manufacturers of gear units considerate thermal capacity of gearmotors and it is defined in the catalogue, so that the customer doesn’t have to take care about this problem. Today, in the time of tough competition, it is necessary to consider the effect of external load at the output shaft end of gear unit on its thermal capacity, in order to make a good selection of gear reducer. This paper takes the consideration about the reducing of thermal capacity of gear unit due to additional heating from external load of output shaft end. After analysing it is concluded this effect is negligible and there is no need to be taken into account when selecting the size of gear reducer.
